Foods in Paraguay?
In school, we are taking spanish. My assighnment is to do the following:
List the item’s name in spanish and describe (what it is made of) it in English.
1. List and describe typical desayuno (breakfast) foods served in Paraguay.
2.List and describe typical almuerzo (lunch) foods served in Paraguay.
3.List and …typical cena (dinner) foods served…
4. At what time is each meal served?
5.What are some traditional desserts? Describe them.
6.What do te people usually drink with their meals?
7.What is Paraguay’s largest meal of the day?
8.What other cultures have influenced its foods?
Hm, I’ll try to answer your questions one by one:
1. Desayuno: Most people will just have some sweet coffee or sweet, black Mate and chipas with jam. Papayas are also common.
2. Almuerzo: It is often too hot for that, and people will just have some Mate or Terere, often a slice of melon.
3. Cena: Carne Asada (barbecued meats) of a huge variety are often served with red wines, beer, the river fish Surubi and Dorado, with the Surubi sometimes served in a coconut sauce. Vegetables are not a big item in Paraguay, but Manioca is usually part of most meals.
4. Desayuno: before dawn. Almuerzo: around 11. Cena: From 9pm till about 2am.
5. Desserts: The most popular one is Dulce con Leche, a caramel cream.
6. I’ve mentioned the drinks.
7. Largest meal of the day is la cena.
8. Paraguayan beer has seen influence from Austria and Germany, the coffee is Brazilian style, the black Mate Argentinian. Much of the meat dishes will remind you of Uruguay, but that is probably a coincidence due to technical necessities (after all, how else can you prepare barbecued meats?).
