Building your vocabulary to improve English accent: main methods for native speakers of Chinese
It is possible to communicate effectively without using a lot of very big words. In fact, never completed the acquisition of vocabulary is a lifelong process for all. Any time you start to use new words and phrases begin to expand your mind to new areas. As you continue practicing new words and improve English accent which will become more fluid as it further study.
Memorization and Word Associations
One of the best methods to build a vocabulary a second language successfully is the use of word memorization techniques. If a word is visually or phonetically related to another word, it's much easier to remember. Visualize the word in print. Say the word aloud, and spelling aloud. Say a sentence out loud using the new word. Create a picture in your mind that will help remember the word.
Often my clients have said they will say the word in Chinese and then translate English into Chinese vocabulary to remember the newly formed words. Of course, sometimes no other word that can easily associate with the newly learned vocabulary word. Word association techniques may be very limited at times and can take a long time to learn and apply new vocabulary words. Practice makes perfect, and the more work in this more easier it becomes. Continue to practice the association of new words with words in their primary language.
Read more books
There are many other methods to expand their vocabulary, however, if you start reading books and articles that are a little more advanced than what is currently used for, you begin to expand and improve their American accent. It does not matter if it's fiction or nonfiction. You will increase your understanding of words when reading books. Buy the habit of reading new material every day. Find ways to prove themselves and stay involved.
As you begin to read more, you will find words do not know. It's understandable. Be sure to keep your pocket dictionary. If you do not bring a dictionary, please see some online dictionaries. One of my online dictionary favorite is the Merriam-Webster, to help you pronounce the word.
