learning french fast
How can i learn french and Italian fast?

I want to learn it in about two years because i am going to France and i want to speak French, also i want to speak Italian because i just think is interesting, how much time would i need? Is a community college a good option to study? Tell me everything you think i should know, thank you very much

xoxo
english is not my native language and i learned it really fast and even speak like i am from the USA, i am a fast learner in languages, and i know a little bit of french and italian already
i said 2 years not 2 weeks
and i know spanish, is my main language

Sorry to be bring you bad news, but it is virtually impossible to learn a language in 2 weeks. People take years to be able to speak another language fluently and decades to sound like a native speaker, if they ever acquire that ability at all. Think of how long it takes a child to acquire linguistic efficiency and accuracy.

In 2 weeks you will be able to acquire some basic principles and learn several modal phrases.

A community college is a decent way to start to learn basics, but be wary as often teachers are not native speakers and may teach you some incorrect usage of the language.

If you have 2 weeks to learn some basics, I would suggest the following.

1. Purchase a simple grammar book made in France/Italy (as quite often those made locally are full of errors). This will assist you in learning the basic structure of the language.

2. Purchase a text book divided into topics, in order to learn vocab, modal phrases, syntax etc.

3. Try speaking out loud and conversing with native speakers, to encourage fluency, proficency and pronunciation

4. Listen to Italian/French: watch as many programs/movies. In this manner, you can hear how words are pronounced and get a feel for how phrases are formulated.
Downloading from youtube could also be a good start. I would suggest to rent out movies you have already seen in english, that way you don’t need to concentrate on the storline and know the subject matter of the dialogues. Kids movies are great as they employ “easier” language. Songs/podcasts/radio are also a good idea.

5. Read and comprehend. Fantastic way to learn new words and again get a feel for how the language works. Newspapers, magazines, online articles. Also, fairytales and picture books are good to start off with, as they are simple and are aimed at children learning to read.

Remember, to learn a language you need to immerse yourself within it, leave and breath it. You need to work on grammar, vocab (ie written expression), listening and comprehension skills, speaking skills.

One last thing, you will never learn it properly until you speak with natives. Just like english speakers don’t express themselves in shakespearian sonnets or like a textbook, native french/iatlian speakers will not necessarily speak as your textbook says. Rather, they will have slangs, dialects, different regional accents. Think of the differences between the various states in the US, or between american english and british english. The language will also differ depending on the context, formal v informal, academic v friednly chat.

Anyway, good luck and have a fantastic trip.

ps once you learn one romance language (ie french, italian, spanish etc) it will be much easier to learn another as the grammar is substantially similar.
