French in Montreal for Immigrants?
Hello,
I am moving to Montreal next year to be with my husband :} after I get my permanent residency. He lives in the West Island very English, but I am aware to obtain a good job I must speak French also. I work in Film, Production, Literary, business, and hospitality.
For 2-3 months I will have enough money saved up I won’t have to work I can get accustomed to the roads, and learn French on a regular basis. I heard the YMCA gives lessons, but being an immigrant are there free or less expensive lessons where I can learn the language?
Thank You! I’m looking forward to a new city.

If you have a good grasp of English I suggest you do not take a class at a community center which will be cheaper but a waste of your time as most of the immigrants that do not speak English very well manage to take these courses. I am an immigrant to Quebec and I found that Dawson College had the best teachers for learning French. You can do it through there Continuing Education doing intensive classes.
I just finished my level 3 there and I feel like I have learned so much more French in the past 10 weeks then my almost 3 years of living here.
