What are the differences between the way Chinese and Western people attempt to persuade or write rhetorically?
I’ve noticed there are some differences between the way the two cultures argue (in writing on internet forums, etc.). It often means there is an irresolvable communication breakdown, where people end up not even arguing about the same thing. Is it a linguistic barrier? Is it insurmountable?
it’s interested that you didn’t actually share the discovered “differences between the way the two cultures argue “…
there are no differences actually because both eastern and western races are humans so the way the argue — sticking to one point, insulting other side, being eager to win is the same…
however the means used are different of course, because they are the part of culture… for example in China people tend to tell you the most important info right at the end of the message… in the West it’s “hi Mike, i’ve bought a car, it’s red, fast, the company which solds then is in the downtown…”, while in the East it’s “when i was going to the Shenzhen last month i was passing by a newly developed district and one of the shops there was selling the cars so this month i bought one”…
another feature i noticed is repeating… Chinese people tend to repeat the information several times using the same words… while in western world people invent different phrases otherwise it’s viewed as tautology…
