for those who are introverted foreigners, how can you handle the social problems in U.S?
I’m not a quiet person But I am when I’m in a new school. I am hard-of-hearing and I usually don’t talk when I meet new people. They rapidly label me as “shy, quiet, or snobby girl.” I’m a sw33t girl who was born in africa and moved here in 2001. I’m trying so hard to explain to people that english is not my first language and I have hearing loss and that’s why I don’t talk a lot. I want homeschooling. I think it’s easier because I don’t want to be in a deaf school and I don’t want to be in a public school. I just need to learn how to pronounce english words and build self-confidence. when I was in other school, I was reading out loud and people were laughing at me because I sound different. I have a french accent, I told them that. They think french accent is weird. That’s why I’m afraid to talk to people. I can’t stand american people. Leave foreigners alone! my friend is russian and her accent is odd but I don’t make fun of her. People need to understand that every accent is fine.

Many of the people who laugh, and make fun, are very insecure, and jealous, of the fact, that you can speak 2 languages. Personally, I think the French accent is lovely.
I have many friends, from many different countries, each with a unique accent. Some, have difficulty understanding people with different accents, even different accents within the USA. People in Brooklyn NY, have a very hard time understanding some folks from Mobile, Alabama.
If they aren’t willing to be understanding and patient, you don’t need them as friends, you’ll find some who are kind and compassionate, who will take the time to learn and understand you better.
Talk to your guidance counsellor at school, perhaps there is a French Club you can join, or other group of people. Maybe you can teach a sign language course, you can learn English from them at the same time. Look for people, with like interests, and ignore those who poke fun, they’re not worth your time, or consideration.
