
Learn Japanese – Useful Phrases: Shopping
Shopping in Japan is generally a very pleasant experience as they take the West's motto "The customer always right "to another level with" wa Kamisama Okyakusama ", literally" The customer is God. "And it is no exaggeration to say that you are treated as such. From the second you walk in the door (or often just meters before it) you are greeted with a roar "IRASHAIMASE!" (WELCOME!) for the first officer sees you, then repeated by all the available wizards. * Note: The Japanese language uses a large number of particles write that often fall into the conversation (except when it speaks very formally). Similar to say "I am …" instead of "I am …". Most the textbooks are these but I have omitted to help you learn Japanese in a more natural.
Upon entering the store:
* Irasshaimase – Welcome * Nanika osagashi desuka? – Are you looking for something (in particular)?
* Miteru Dake desu – I am looking * Hai, ____arimasuka? – Does some ____?
Names of clothing (many names are derived from English as you can pick up!)
* Zubon – Pants * Denimu – * Hanzubon Jeans – Shorts * Shaatsu – T * Seeta – Sweater * Boushi – Hat
* Buruzon / Daun – Jacket * Wanpiisu – Dress * Mafura – Scarf * Kutsu – Shoes * Kutsushita – Socks
Colours:
* Aka – Red * Ao – Blue * Midori – Green * Kiira – Amarillo * Kuro – Black * Shiro – White * Pinku – Pink
* Orenji – Orange * Murasaki – Purple * Chair – Brown
*____ Arimasuka iro? – You got the color of ____()? * Chigau arimasuka iro? – Do you have a color different?
Other phrases:
Kore wa ikura desuka *? – What is this? * Chotto Takai desu – is a bit expensive
* Mou sukoshi ____ No arimasuka? – I'll ____? (Ookii – Bigger, Chiisai – Smaller, Yasui – cheaper)
* Chotto kangaemasu – I'll think about it * Arigatou gozaimasu – Thank you
Numbers: (Note-Yen is pronounced as 'in' at the end of the price)
* 1 – ichi 2 – ni, 3 – san 4 – shi 5 – However, 6 – roku, 7 – nana 8 – hachi, 9 – kyu, 10 – jyu.
* Add a number and then jyu (ten) to twenty, thirty, etc. For example nijyu = twenty gojyu = Fifty.
* Hyaku – one hundred * Sen – Mil * Man – Ten thousand * Jyuman – one hundred thousand
* Examples-2500 – Ni sen go hyaku, 11400 – Hyaku sen Ichima yon, 255 – or go jyu go hyaku
(There are some small changes to the numbers when grouping but will be very difficult to talk about them here.
