college chinese course?
im considering taking an “intro to mandarin chinese course” when i enroll in college this fall…is this language extremely difficult to learn?
Mostly likely you’re gonna learn the simplified Chinese script, as far as the writing system is concerned. It’s what second-language learners learn as it’s what Chinese from China do as well. It’s a lot easier than orthodox Chinese script, you’re able to communicate with the simplified script, but if you want to go in depth, to study the origins of the characters, the simplified script is TOO simplified.
Other than that, the Chinese language isn’t that hard. Pronounciation is fairly simple, you just need to pay attention to the intonation as Chinese has a distinct tone system. Verb conjugation isn’t particularly hard either. So it’s just the writing which needs more hard work.
